Role Summary

Embedded security software architect role within the ASM Application Specific MCU software group focusing on automotive and industrial microcontroller platforms. The role converts silicon security capabilities into scalable software solutions and collaborates with silicon, ROM, and firmware teams.

Work includes secure boot, secure firmware update, runtime security, cryptographic key management, and integration with hardware security modules.

Experience Level

Mid-level. 5–10 years of embedded software development experience, with a minimum of 5 years focused on embedded software security architecture.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities center on designing, documenting, and delivering security software across the device lifecycle and collaborating across hardware and software teams.

• Architect and document end-to-end security software solutions: secure boot, secure firmware updates (FOTA), runtime security, and secure execution environments.
• Define and implement cryptographic key management and manufacturing-time provisioning frameworks.
• Design middleware and software interfaces to utilize HSM features (secure storage isolation, crypto acceleration, secure debug).
• Collaborate with silicon systems and ROM teams to ensure a robust hardware root of trust and secure boot flow.
• Translate hardware capabilities into software requirements and optimize software to meet hardware constraints.
• Perform code reviews, provide architectural oversight, and mentor junior security engineers.
• Support software validation, QA, configuration and release management for software deliverables.
• Drive compliance strategies for automotive and industrial standards (ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, IEC 62443).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• 5–10 years total embedded software development experience with a minimum of 5 years dedicated to embedded software security architecture.
• Proven experience delivering security software in automotive or industrial functional safety/security environments.
• Deep understanding of microcontroller architectures (ARM Cortex-M/R, RISC-V), TrustZone, MPUs, and HSM concepts.
• Experience implementing boot-time and runtime HSM services: secure boot, image verification, key injection verification, crypto offload, secure communication stacks (e.g., SecOC/TLS), lifecycle state management, and runtime tamper/exception handling.
• Strong C and assembly skills for embedded development; ability to specify software interfaces and middleware for security services.
• Strong communication and technical mentorship skills to guide junior engineers and cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

• Hands-on Rust experience for embedded systems.
• Familiarity with RTOS/OS environments such as Linux, Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or ThreadX.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
