SoC Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Perform physical design implementation for complex SoC blocks and IP subsystems to meet the power, performance, and area (PPA) targets for AR wearable products.
Work on the Reality Labs Silicon team and partner with RTL, DFT, verification, power, and cross-functional teams to deliver tapeout-ready designs and improve physical design flows and automation.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically requires 3+ years of hands-on ASIC physical design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include physical implementation, integration, and design quality assurance.
- Implement physical design from RTL to netlist: floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis (CTS), routing, and signoff.
- Perform static timing analysis (STA), timing closure, and signoff checks to meet timing and PPA targets.
- Collaborate with RTL, DFT, verification, and power teams to ensure integration and quality of results (QOR).
- Optimize designs for power, performance, and area using established methodologies.
- Contribute to automation of physical design flows and tooling to improve productivity and repeatability.
Requirements
Must-have skills and tools, plus useful preferred experience.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience in ASIC physical design and strong understanding of digital design fundamentals.
- Must-have: Proficiency with industry EDA tools such as Synopsys (ICC2, Fusion Compiler, PrimeTime), Cadence (Innovus), or Mentor (Calibre).
- Must-have: Scripting skills (TCL, Perl, or Python) for flow automation.
- Must-have: Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
- Nice-to-have: Low-power design techniques, IR-drop analysis, and deep STA/CTS expertise.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with MBIST, scan insertion tradeoffs, and convergence for physical implementation.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with advanced process nodes (7nm or below).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is expected, or equivalent practical experience; degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
Compensation: $114,000/year to $166,000/year (base) plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Actual compensation depends on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
