SOC Engineer - Physical Design
Role Summary
Member of the SoC Engineering team responsible for implementing and deploying SoC designs using Synopsys EDA tools and IP. The role combines customer-facing advisory work, delivery of turnkey projects, and collaboration with product and sales teams to broaden tool and IP adoption.
Experience Level
Mid-level / Mid-Career - typically 5 to 10 years of relevant industry experience in physical design and place & route.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement SoC flows from Verilog/RTL to GDS using Synopsys tools (Fusion Compiler/ICC2).
- Deliver turnkey projects and act as a trusted advisor to customer design and CAD teams.
- Debug place-and-route, timing, extraction, IREM, and physical verification issues; prepare for signoff.
- Collaborate with Business Units, AE, and Sales to broaden and deploy tool and IP solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentor junior engineers.
- Set and meet task-level goals and schedules; propose independent technical solutions.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 5–10 years hands-on experience in Place & Route domains using Fusion Compiler/ICC2.
- Strong debugging skills and a solid understanding of P&R, extraction, timing, IREM, and physical verification fundamentals.
- Proficiency in scripting (TCL and PERL).
- Effective English communication skills and experience mentoring junior team members.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with signoff tools such as PrimeTime, RedHawk, StarRC, or ICV.
Education Requirements
BS, MS, or PhD in Electronics Engineering, Electromechanics, or Telecommunications.
