Job Title

SoC Design Engineer

Role Summary

The SoC Design Engineer develops RTL and logic for system-on-chip (SoC) designs, integrates IP and subsystems into full-chip implementations, and works to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.

This role collaborates with IP providers, verification and physical implementation teams, and participates in architecture and microarchitecture refinement within a cross-functional engineering group.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typically requires 3+ years of relevant industry experience in microarchitecture development, RTL coding, or logic design.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include RTL development, integration, verification support, and optimization for physical implementation.

  • Design and implement logic and RTL aligned to architectural and microarchitectural specifications.
  • Integrate IP blocks and subsystems into full-chip SoC designs and validate integration at the SoC level.
  • Perform RTL simulation, debug RTL test failures, and implement corrective measures.
  • Drive optimization for power, performance, area, and timing; support timing closure activities.
  • Assess and address design integrity for physical implementation (timing, power, area convergence).
  • Collaborate on verification plans and review verification results to ensure correctness of implemented features.
  • Apply secure development practices to mitigate security threats and meet secure-design objectives.
  • Coordinate with IP providers to enable smooth IP/SoC handoffs and compliance with quality standards.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

Must-have:

  • 3+ years of experience in microarchitecture development, RTL coding, or logic design.
  • Experience with clock domain crossing techniques, low-power design methodologies, and SoC clocking structures.
  • Experience using RTL design tools and methodologies, SoC integration practices, and physical implementation optimization strategies.
  • Proven ability to debug RTL, resolve test failures, and drive design-to-silicon quality.
  • Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills in complex technical environments.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with secure development practices for secure-design implementation.
  • Familiarity with SoC Builder environments and Network-on-Chip (NoC) architectures.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another STEM-related field. Preferred: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field. The posting indicates that minimum qualifications may be met through a combination of industry experience, internships, and/or applicable coursework or research (equivalent practical experience acceptable). No specific certifications were required or listed.
