Job Title
SoC - ATE Test Engineer
Role Summary
Join Apple's Silicon Engineering Group to develop automated test equipment (ATE) test programs, test software and supporting hardware for Apple silicon System-on-Chip (SoC) devices. The role focuses on debug, characterization, qualification and production test for logic, memory and custom IP.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to prepare test plans, debug pre- and post-silicon issues, and drive test solutions for new device ramp and mass production.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically requires 5+ years of relevant ATE test experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include owning ATE test program development and supporting test activities across development and production.
- Manage end-to-end ATE test program, software and hardware development for NPI and mass production.
- Drive ATE debug to identify and resolve silicon and test failures.
- Optimize test hardware and software to reduce cost and improve coverage.
- Provide ATE support for qualification activities, RMAs and failure analysis.
- Develop test infrastructure tools, automation and data analytics to improve throughput and quality.
- Coordinate test activities with internal and external teams and evaluate product testability.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and skills for the role; preferred items are listed separately.
-
Must-have: 5+ years of hands-on ATE test experience.
-
Must-have: Strong programming and debugging skills for test programs and test-related hardware development (experience with Teradyne UFlex/J750/ip750, Advantest 93k platforms preferred).
-
Must-have: Expertise in semiconductor test methodology.
-
Must-have: Willingness and ability to travel as required.
-
Nice-to-have: Scripting (e.g., PERL) and high-level language experience (C/C++, Visual Basic).
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with digital VLSI SoC test and debug.
-
Nice-to-have: Understanding of semiconductor manufacturing process, product lifecycle, and design-for-test/manufacturing concepts.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience using test equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer) and developing tooling for automation and analytics.
Education Requirements
No explicit degree requirement is stated. The posting prefers background or strong understanding in electronic/electrical engineering and related technical fields, but does not specify required degrees or certifications.
