Job Title
SLD FPGA Verification Engineer III - Lunar Permanence
Role Summary
Work on the Lunar Permanence avionics team to verify FPGA-based subsystems for Blue Origin's lunar lander programs. The role focuses on requirements-based verification, developing UVM testbenches, formal methods, and on-target testing to support high-reliability, safety-critical avionics.
Experience Level
Mid-level — expects approximately 5+ years verifying FPGAs or ASICs and experience with industry verification flows.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include verification planning, test development, and reporting to support certification and delivery of FPGA designs.
- Perform requirements-based verification of FPGA designs using UVM and directed/random test strategies.
- Create verification and validation plans covering functional and system-level goals.
- Develop IP/subsystem/system-level testbenches and verification components (monitors, scoreboards, drivers, agents).
- Write directed and constrained-random tests, run regressions, collect coverage, and analyze results against coverage goals.
- Document verification plans, procedures, and generate verification reports to support certification (high DAL).
- Debug interactions between RTL, testbench, and test cases to isolate and resolve issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and constraints for successful candidates. Desired (nice-to-have) items are listed after core requirements.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience verifying FPGAs or ASICs (note: years noted in Experience Level).
- In-depth experience with RTL simulation tools such as Siemens QuestaSim or ModelSim.
- Strong knowledge of SystemVerilog and the Universal Verification Methodology (UVM).
- Experience developing verification components and testbenches from scratch, including functional coverage and assertions.
- Experience with constrained-random verification and coverage-driven verification techniques.
- Familiarity with Register Abstraction Layer and generating coverage matrices and progress reports.
- Proven debugging skills to isolate issues across RTL, testbench, and hardware integration.
- Must be a U.S. person as required by export-control regulations (U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
Desired / nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with AXI, PCIe, Ethernet, SPI, I2C protocols and HW/SW integration debugging.
- Experience managing regression and CI infrastructure (e.g., GitLab).
- Scripting for automation (Python, Perl, TCL/Shell).
- Knowledge of NPR 7150.2, DO-254, or other safety-critical standards.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field (BS/MS in EE, CE, or closely related). No alternate "equivalent experience" language was specified.
