Job Title
Silicon Power Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the Silicon Solutions team responsible for post-silicon power characterization, validation, and productization of NVIDIA chips. Work spans silicon bring-up, power/performance correlation, test development, and collaboration with architecture, design, firmware, and system teams.
The role focuses on identifying and resolving silicon power issues, developing measurement methodologies and models, and delivering data and recommendations that enable product release and power-optimization features.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically requires 2+ years of relevant industry experience in silicon bring-up, validation, or related hardware engineering roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include silicon bring-up, power characterization, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Execute post-silicon test cases, debug power-related silicon and system issues, and produce clear results and design feedback.
- Lead triage of critical silicon bugs and enable solutions that unblock product shipments.
- Develop and apply methodologies and tools to characterize silicon power behavior and correlate it with pre-silicon models and simulations.
- Work with architecture, chip/board design, firmware, and software teams to define test plans and power-management features.
- Create power consumption models for binning, productization, and customer guidance; tune hardware and software for power optimization.
- Collaborate with validation, bring-up, ATE, process/reliability, and operations teams in a lab environment.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items noted.
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of silicon power and performance, node impacts, and hardware–software interactions at the system level.
-
Must-have: Hands-on experience with silicon bring-up, validation, productization, and hardware debugging in a lab environment; familiarity with lab equipment and board/system design considerations.
-
Must-have: Good data analysis and logical reasoning skills; ability to produce actionable design feedback.
-
Must-have: Experience with power supply design, substrate noise analysis/mitigation, and power control mechanisms.
-
Nice-to-have: Exposure to critical path analysis, power analysis tools, transistor/device physics, silicon reliability and aging mechanisms.
-
Nice-to-have: Exposure to digital design, circuit analysis, computer architecture, BIOS, drivers, or software applications.
-
Preferred: Linux experience; Windows experience is expected. Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Perl is a plus.
- Must be a collaborative team member able to work with global, cross-functional teams.
Education Requirements
B.Tech or M.Tech in Electronics Engineering (Electronics stream). (This posting specifies these degrees.)
