Silicon Photonics Specialist - Field Service Engineer (m/f/d)
Role Summary
Field service engineer responsible for installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of silicon photonics wafer prober systems across the EMEA region. The role performs on-site customer service, remote troubleshooting, and documentation to ensure product availability and customer acceptance.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typically requires several years of hands-on service or field-engineering experience in semiconductor test or related industries (see Education Requirements for degree/experience combinations).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include on-site and remote support for silicon photonics wafer probe systems, customer-facing acceptance, maintenance and documentation.
- Install, commission and perform final acceptance of probers and accessories according to test and acceptance procedures.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance at customer sites across EMEA.
- Troubleshoot and repair systems remotely and on-site; escalate and collaborate with internal engineering teams as needed.
- Prepare commissioning protocols, acceptance reports and timely service documentation.
- Provide technical training and instruction to customers.
- Participate in product qualification activities and continuous improvement efforts.
- Follow health and safety requirements during internal work and customer visits.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, languages and logistical qualifications for field service work.
- Practical experience in silicon photonics and/or semiconductor test equipment or similar field service roles.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and punctuality.
- Good communication skills in German and English, both written and spoken.
- Proficient with common MS Office applications.
- Valid driving license and willingness to travel frequently across the EMEA region.
- Ability to work independently in small teams and to interact directly with customers.
Education Requirements
Engineer or technician qualification in electrical engineering, automation technology or a similar technical field is expected. The posting specifies degree/experience combinations: a Bachelor’s degree with ~5 years related experience; a Master’s degree with ~3 years related experience; or a PhD without prior experience. Equivalent practical work experience is accepted.
