Job Title

Senior Wireless Communication Systems Engineer

Role Summary

Senior R&D engineer on the Silvus Technologies communications systems team (a Motorola Solutions subsidiary). Responsible for design, prototyping, verification and validation of MANET/MIMO wireless systems used in mission-critical applications.

Work includes algorithm development, system-level simulation, FPGA and software integration, lab and field testing; hybrid schedule based in West Los Angeles, CA (minimum three onsite days per week).

Experience Level

Senior — minimum 4 years of experience in the design and development of wireless systems.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include system design, algorithm development, implementation support, and test planning and execution.

  • Define system requirements and perform system design.
  • Develop, simulate, implement, and test signal-processing and communications algorithms.
  • Perform system performance simulation, benchmarking, and testing.
  • Provide fixed-point modeling and FPGA design and verification support.
  • Support FPGA and software teams for hardware/software integration and troubleshooting.
  • Lead or coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams for product and feature development as needed.
  • Set, track, and drive development schedules and tasks.
  • Design and conduct lab and field tests and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Prepare technical documentation and participate in R&D capture/business development as required.
  • Propose product and technology enhancements based on current product understanding.
  • Infrequent travel to support customer interactions or demonstrations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and constraints. Candidates must meet citizenship and background requirements noted below.

Must-have:

  • Minimum 4 years experience in wireless system design and development, including field testing.
  • Extensive knowledge of RF propagation, channel modeling, and digital communications subsystems (synchronization, channel estimation, channel coding).
  • Strong expertise in signal-processing algorithms, MIMO, and OFDM.
  • Experience modeling and mitigating RF impairments (AGC, phase noise, frequency/clock offset).
  • Experience with fixed-point modeling, implementation, and verification.
  • Experience supporting FPGA design and verification efforts.
  • Expert-level MATLAB programming and simulation skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (position supports U.S. government contracts).
  • Employment contingent on successful background check and drug test.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET), medium access and routing algorithms.
  • Cognitive radio techniques for congested/contested spectrum and interference mitigation.
  • RF sensing, signal detection, and classification experience.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.

Education Requirements

M.S. or Ph.D. in wireless communications and signal processing (or closely related technical field) is required, per the posting.
