Senior Test Development Engineer

Role Summary

Senior engineer responsible for developing manufacturing and design verification test strategies, test hardware, and automation software for PCBAs used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Works with customers and cross-functional teams (design, test, manufacturing, PMO, Quality) to deliver and implement test solutions in labs and production sites.

Role includes project ownership, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to long-term test strategy.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Minimum 5 years of experience in test development engineering.

Responsibilities

Typical duties include:

  • Develop manufacturing and design verification test plans for PCBAs; analyze test coverage, test time, and cost efficiency.
  • Design and implement test hardware and fixtures, using off-the-shelf and custom solutions; collaborate with vendors and hardware developers.
  • Develop and maintain test automation scripts for volume functional test (LabVIEW required).
  • Support global manufacturing test teams by deploying, optimizing, and maintaining test solutions; travel to Jabil and customer sites as needed.
  • Create test documentation: plans, specifications, procedures, hardware requirements, equipment lists, and troubleshooting manuals.
  • Perform root cause analysis and data analysis to resolve failures in NPI and volume production.
  • Train and mentor test engineers, technicians, and operators; support business development with technical input and quoting.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical skills and attributes:

  • Must-have: Functional test experience with digital and analog PCBAs and experience supporting manufacturing sites for semiconductor equipment.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with LabVIEW and experience with standard PCBA test equipment (oscilloscopes/digital communication analyzers, DMMs, DAQs, frequency counters, Ethernet switches).
  • Must-have: Ability to perform electrical designs for test fixtures and to develop test automation scripts.
  • Must-have: Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Preferred: Experience with TestStand, C/C++, C# and other programming languages.
  • Preferred: Understanding of manufacturing test strategies (pre-FT, FT, ST, ESS) and differences between manufacturing and design verification test.
  • Experience developing cost-effective volume-test stations; proficient with Microsoft Office. Self-starter, team player, and willing to travel globally to support projects.

Education Requirements

Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years of test development engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
