Job Title
Senior Staff NPI Product Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Staff NPI Product Engineer will support new product introduction from early concept through production release and transfer to high-volume manufacturing. The role reports to the Manager of NPI Product Engineering and works across design, test, validation, quality, reliability, applications and operations teams.
Primary responsibilities include defining testability and manufacturability requirements, characterizing CMOS and BiCMOS products, driving ATE-to-bench correlation, optimizing yield and test cost, and ensuring manufacturing readiness.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5–8 years of experience in semiconductor product, test, or design engineering (relevant internships/co-ops considered).
Responsibilities
Accountabilities span NPI program support, test and manufacturability definition, characterization and yield optimization, and production quality support.
- Support NPI programs from concept through product release and manufacturing transfer; track milestones and deliverables.
- Collaborate with Design, Test, Validation, Quality, Reliability, Applications, Marketing, and Operations teams.
- Define and support Design for Testability (DfT) and Design for Manufacturability (DfM) requirements; assist with ATE test program development and optimization.
- Plan and execute wafer-level and bench characterization across PVT; analyze ATE and bench data and perform correlation studies.
- Support yield modeling, DOE planning, test-time optimization, and statistically driven test limit definition.
- Assist failure analysis, root-cause investigations, and production issue resolution with foundry and packaging partners.
- Contribute to product release documentation, manufacturing readiness materials, validation and reliability qualification activities, and continuous cost-reduction efforts.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools and experience required to perform the role effectively, plus a short list of desirable additions.
- 5–8 years experience in semiconductor product, test, or design engineering or equivalent practical experience in related roles.
- Practical familiarity with statistical data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, JMP) and data-driven problem solving.
- Foundational knowledge of semiconductor physics and analog/mixed-signal IC principles.
- Exposure to DfT, DfM, and ATE methodologies and test program concepts.
- Experience with wafer-level and bench characterization, correlation studies, and yield-analysis methods.
- Understanding of semiconductor qualification and reliability processes and standards; ability to support validation and reliability activities.
- Strong analytical mindset, problem-solving skills, and clear written and verbal communication.
- Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with ATE platforms (Advantest, Teradyne), DOE and yield-modeling tools, failure analysis techniques, and test-time optimization initiatives.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is required; Master’s degree is preferred. Relevant internships or co-op experience are considered. Equivalent practical experience in semiconductor/product/test engineering may be acceptable.
