Role Summary

The Senior Staff Hardware Engineer - Optical will lead the development of hardware platforms for integrated optical transceiver engines in high-speed fiber optic communications. The engineer will work within the Optics team to design, verify, and validate high-speed optical components, ensuring the transition from product inception to New Product Introduction (NPI).

Experience Level

Senior, with a requirement of a Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with 3+ years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

The role includes various responsibilities:

  • Lead design and development of hardware including DUT cards, interposers, socket designs, and handler boards.
  • Own schematic capture, layout reviews, stack-up optimization, and BOM management.
  • Review power integrity (PI) and signal integrity (SI) simulations.
  • Collaborate with teams to define hardware requirements and integrate new product features.
  • Drive component selection based on performance, availability, and cost.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts in Python, C++, and MATLAB.
  • Interface with manufacturing teams to support DFMA.
  • Author technical documentation and contribute to internal publications.

Requirements

Candidates should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Proven expertise in hardware design for semiconductor testing or power delivery systems.
  • Strong background in PI/SI analysis using various simulation tools.
  • Experience with schematic and layout tools like Cadence Virtuoso.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, SPMI, and UART.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instruments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in publishing and presenting technical work is a plus.

Education Requirements

A Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
