Senior Staff Applications Engineer - Static Timing Analysis (STA)

Role Summary

Join the Customer Success Group as an applications engineer focused on PrimeTime Static Timing Analysis. You will drive product adoption, provide expert-level technical support and training, and collaborate with R&D, sales, and marketing to improve STA workflows and features.

Primary mission: enable customers to achieve timing closure and successful tapeouts using Synopsys PrimeTime and related ECO flows.

Experience Level

Senior. Experience guidance: typically 8+ years with a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years with a Master’s (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include pre- and post-sales technical engagement, training, troubleshooting, and product feedback.

  • Drive adoption and usage of PrimeTime and ECO tools in customer engagements.
  • Perform competitive benchmarks and product evaluations to position PrimeTime.
  • Provide expert training, onboarding, and hands-on support to customers through tapeout.
  • Collaborate with R&D, sales, and marketing to define requirements and influence product enhancements.
  • Engage with customers to collect actionable feedback and advocate for their needs internally.
  • Communicate technical solutions to engineers and senior management.
  • Troubleshoot critical issues related to timing closure, signal integrity, and process variations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain expertise; scripting and automation are desirable.

  • Deep domain knowledge in Static Timing Analysis (STA) and timing closure methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple chip tapeouts at 16nm or below process nodes.
  • Practical experience with timing closure and ECO flows and advanced design methodologies.
  • Expertise with Synopsys PrimeTime and familiarity with timing corners, process variations, and signal integrity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented problem solver; capable of working independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: scripting/automation skills (Tcl, Perl, Python) to automate STA flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent plus 8+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) plus 5+ years of relevant experience. Equivalent practical experience will be considered where stated.
