Job Title
Senior Staff Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Lead customer-facing technical engagements to deploy and drive adoption of electronics thermal simulation solutions. Work with customers on package, board, and system-level thermal management problems, integrate simulation tools into customer workflows, and influence product improvements based on field feedback.
Member of a cross-functional customer excellence team focused on electronics thermal management; role is remote-eligible within the United States and involves regular customer interaction and training.
Experience Level
Senior β senior-level, customer-facing engineering role. Typical background includes multiple years of hands-on experience in application engineering, simulation, or consulting in electronics thermal management.
Responsibilities
Technical and customer-facing responsibilities include:
- Lead technical engagement across the sales cycle: discovery, demos, proof-of-concept, and evaluations.
- Work with customers to define thermal challenges, design workflows, and simulation requirements at package, board, and system levels.
- Deploy and integrate Ansys simulation tools (e.g., Fluent, Icepak, Mechanical) or equivalent into customer processes to deliver engineering value.
- Test new releases on industrial thermal problems, document findings, and create application best practices.
- Partner with product development to translate customer feedback into feature requests and roadmap priorities.
- Deliver training and consulting engagements (onsite or remote) and present at industry events.
- Author technical content for conferences, webinars, and marketing to support customer education and product positioning.
Requirements
Core qualifications and skills required or strongly expected:
- At least 4 years in application engineering, customer support, or consulting roles involving engineering software and direct customer interaction.
- Strong technical grounding and hands-on experience with fluid mechanics, CFD, and thermodynamics applied to electronics thermal management.
- Proficiency with Ansys tools (Fluent, Icepak, Mechanical) or equivalent experience with CAE/EDA/PLM platforms.
- Experience integrating simulation into customer workflows beyond isolated analyses.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences; strong customer-facing and training ability.
- Willingness to travel domestically ~25% (flexible up to ~50% as needed).
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate across cross-functional teams; professional client-facing demeanor.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with multiphysics coupling (electro-thermal, thermo-mechanical).
- Previous involvement in product roadmap input, technical marketing, or published conference content.
Education Requirements
MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6+ years' experience; or BS with 8+ years; or PhD with 3+ years (PhD with 7+ years preferred). Fields of study: Mechanical Engineering, or related technical disciplines relevant to thermal/CFD simulation. Equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree is commonly considered in engineering software roles.
