Job Title

Senior Staff Applications Engineer

Role Summary

Lead technical interface between Marvell's SerDes/PCIe IP and strategic customers to enable deployment of 112G/224G SerDes and PCIe Gen6+ into AI infrastructure, data center servers, and high-speed networking systems.

Work across customer engagements and internal teams to drive design-in, resolve signal-integrity and interoperability issues, support silicon bring-up, and produce application documentation and training.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience expectations: BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering plus 5+ years as an applications engineer, or MS/PhD plus 3+ years.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer technical leadership, complex problem resolution, and enabling product deployment and validation.

  • Serve as primary technical liaison for strategic customers; lead design reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and pre-sales technical support.
  • Debug and resolve complex issues related to SerDes, PCIe (Gen1–Gen6), and high-speed interfaces; perform signal integrity analysis and electrical characterization.
  • Design, build, and bring up evaluation boards and reference platforms; execute SI/PI simulations, protocol compliance testing, and interoperability validation.
  • Collaborate with silicon design, firmware, validation, marketing, and sales to provide product feedback and influence roadmap.
  • Produce application notes, reference designs, user guides, and deliver technical training to customers and internal teams.
  • Create and maintain test automation tools, knowledge bases, and best-practice documentation to improve repeatability and efficiency.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional capabilities.

  • Technical expertise: Deep knowledge of complex mixed-signal ICs, SerDes architectures (TX/RX, PLL/DLL, CDR), equalization techniques (CTLE, DFE, FFE), and PCIe protocols/standards.
  • Hands-on lab skills: Proficiency with high-speed oscilloscopes, BERT testers, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and logic/protocol analyzers; ability to perform eye diagram analysis and jitter measurements.
  • High-speed board design & SI/PI: Understanding of PCB design, transmission line theory, EMC/EMI principles; ability to read schematics and layouts.
  • Customer-facing experience: Demonstrated ability to build customer relationships, perform on-site visits, and provide technical support to customer teams.
  • Communication & collaboration: Strong written/verbal communication, technical writing, presentation skills, and ability to work across global cross-functional teams.
  • Work style: Self-motivated, independent, analytical, able to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under urgency.

Education Requirements

BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 5+ years' experience as an applications engineer, or MS/PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 3+ years' experience. (Education and years-of-experience specified in job posting.)
