Job Title

Senior Staff Application Engineer

Role Summary

Technical lead for the Infrastructure Digital Power portfolio responsible for design-in, validation, and qualification of DC-DC power solutions for next-generation SoC environments. Provides expert customer engineering support and drives product definition and adoption.

Works closely with field teams and customers to validate products in the lab and on-site, debug power delivery systems, and inform new product development from a system-level perspective. Role is based in Austin with a hybrid work model.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Posting indicates experienced candidates: typically 10+ years (MSEE preferred) or 15+ years with a BSEE/BSECE.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership for product deployment, hands-on validation, and customer support.

  • Lead product promotion and design-in activities, including power tree architecture and power delivery debugging.
  • Perform hands-on validation and characterization of DC-DC products in the laboratory.
  • Contribute to product definition based on technical requirements and market needs.
  • Review schematics and PCB layouts for evaluation boards and customer designs.
  • Develop and execute simulations of power converter circuits and systems to resolve technical issues.
  • Author technical documentation such as application notes and design guidelines.
  • Provide technical training on DC-DC converter fundamentals to FAEs and customer engineering teams.
  • Provide on-site and remote customer engineering support, including root-cause analysis and debugging.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and market research to support strategy and marketing.
  • Develop system-level understanding of customer applications to guide new product development.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; notable benefits and preferred skills are noted.

  • Prior experience with multi-phase buck regulators and digitally enabled/controlled power-management products.
  • Knowledge of Intel SVID / AMD SVI and PMBus / AVSBus power-management interfaces.
  • Competence in Python or C for lab tasks and test automation.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment: oscilloscopes, electronic loads, function generators.
  • Experience with analog circuit modeling and simulation tools such as SIMPLIS and PSpice (required).
  • Advanced knowledge of DC/DC converter topologies (buck, boost, buck-boost, charge pump, intermediate bus converters).
  • Expertise in schematic capture and PCB design tools (OrCAD, Allegro, Cadence).
  • Expert-level understanding of control theory, closed-loop compensation, and stability margin analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and high attention to detail/organizational ability.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with lab equipment automation and prior experience automating test setups.

Education Requirements

Required: BSEE or BSECE with 15+ years of relevant experience. Preferred: MSEE with 10+ years of relevant experience. Degrees are in Electrical Engineering / Electrical & Computer Engineering as specified in the posting. No certifications were specified.
