Role Summary

The Senior Software R&D Engineer specializing in VLSI Physical Design will focus on algorithms for placement, global routing, floorplanning, and optimizing physical design. This role involves working on computational geometry, placement, graph optimization, and visualization, directly influencing the physical layout and performance of advanced AI chips.

Senior level, with at least 6 years of experience in software development.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include:

• Implementing, enhancing, optimizing, and deploying new tools for chip-level placement.
• Creating innovative algorithms for computational geometry and routing optimization.
• Developing new machine learning strategies to improve design efficiency.
• Extending GUIs to improve designer insight and debugging.
• Collaborating closely with design teams to translate optimization opportunities into solutions.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications include:

• BS, MS, PhD or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
• Strength in CAD software and VLSI hardware design.
• 6+ years of experience in software development with C++.
• Good understanding of computational geometry, placement, routing, and graph theory.
• Familiarity with design implementation tools such as ICC2 or Innovus.
• Strong communication skills.

Nice-to-have qualifications include:

• C++17/C++14 experience, particularly with lambdas and concurrency.
• Deep understanding of algorithm design principles.
• Experience in high-performance software design, including multithreading and efficient memory use.
• Strong drive for continuous improvement.
• Tenacity in solving complex optimization challenges.

Education Requirements

BS, MS, PhD or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is required.
