Senior Project Manager - Embedded/Firmware/IC Design

Role Summary

Lead software program execution and release management for next-generation IoT SoCs and platform solutions. Own planning, execution, and delivery of software and embedded firmware deliverables that support new IC designs and strategic software initiatives.

Work with cross-functional teams (Software, Embedded/Firmware, IC Design, Hardware, Validation, Product, Operations and Sales) to ensure projects meet schedule, scope, quality, and business objectives.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Target: 7–8+ years managing complex technical projects or programs, ideally involving software and embedded/firmware work.

Responsibilities

Manage end-to-end software program and release activities, drive cross-team coordination, and keep leadership informed.

  • Own program management from planning through execution, release, and closure.
  • Plan and manage software release scope, milestones, dependencies, and schedules aligned to silicon and product timelines.
  • Coordinate across embedded software, SDK, firmware, tools, validation, applications, and system engineering for integration and delivery.
  • Create and maintain integrated program plans: WBS, resource forecasts, risk registers, dashboards, and stakeholder communications.
  • Manage release readiness: feature completion, testing, validation, documentation, and quality/compliance expectations.
  • Identify risks and execution gaps; drive mitigation plans and lead tradeoff decisions.
  • Manage scope and change control through established processes.
  • Lead cross-functional program and release reviews and structured status reporting to senior leadership and customers.
  • Promote Agile/hybrid practices and continuous improvement (CI/CD, automation, tooling, predictability).

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience for successful execution.

  • 7–8+ years leading complex technical projects or programs, with software and embedded/firmware experience.
  • Proven program and release management experience across multiple teams and disciplines.
  • Strong working knowledge of the software development lifecycle; experience in Agile and/or Waterfall environments.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers and understand interactions between firmware, hardware, and IC design.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influence skills; experience communicating with senior leadership and customers.
  • Experience creating program artifacts: WBS, schedules, risk registers, dashboards, and resource forecasts.

Nice to have:

  • PMP, Agile, SAFe, or other project management certifications.
  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA) and/or experience with semiconductor product development planning and scheduling.

Education Requirements

Technical bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience/training. Preferred: advanced degree (MS/MBA). Certifications such as PMP, Agile, or SAFe are listed as desirable. Equivalent practical experience accepted in lieu of formal degree.
