Senior Project Manager - Embedded/Firmware/IC Design
Role Summary
Lead software program execution and release management for next-generation IoT SoCs and platform solutions. Own planning, execution, and delivery of software and embedded firmware deliverables that support new IC designs and strategic software initiatives.
Work with cross-functional teams (Software, Embedded/Firmware, IC Design, Hardware, Validation, Product, Operations and Sales) to ensure projects meet schedule, scope, quality, and business objectives.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Target: 7–8+ years managing complex technical projects or programs, ideally involving software and embedded/firmware work.
Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end software program and release activities, drive cross-team coordination, and keep leadership informed.
- Own program management from planning through execution, release, and closure.
- Plan and manage software release scope, milestones, dependencies, and schedules aligned to silicon and product timelines.
- Coordinate across embedded software, SDK, firmware, tools, validation, applications, and system engineering for integration and delivery.
- Create and maintain integrated program plans: WBS, resource forecasts, risk registers, dashboards, and stakeholder communications.
- Manage release readiness: feature completion, testing, validation, documentation, and quality/compliance expectations.
- Identify risks and execution gaps; drive mitigation plans and lead tradeoff decisions.
- Manage scope and change control through established processes.
- Lead cross-functional program and release reviews and structured status reporting to senior leadership and customers.
- Promote Agile/hybrid practices and continuous improvement (CI/CD, automation, tooling, predictability).
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for successful execution.
- 7–8+ years leading complex technical projects or programs, with software and embedded/firmware experience.
- Proven program and release management experience across multiple teams and disciplines.
- Strong working knowledge of the software development lifecycle; experience in Agile and/or Waterfall environments.
- Ability to collaborate with engineers and understand interactions between firmware, hardware, and IC design.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influence skills; experience communicating with senior leadership and customers.
- Experience creating program artifacts: WBS, schedules, risk registers, dashboards, and resource forecasts.
Nice to have:
- PMP, Agile, SAFe, or other project management certifications.
- Advanced degree (MS, MBA) and/or experience with semiconductor product development planning and scheduling.
Education Requirements
Technical bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience/training. Preferred: advanced degree (MS/MBA). Certifications such as PMP, Agile, or SAFe are listed as desirable. Equivalent practical experience accepted in lieu of formal degree.
