Senior Principal SoC Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the architecture and implementation of functional verification environments and verification strategy for advanced multi-core SoCs in Marvell's Custom Compute Solutions Business Unit in San Diego. Work closely with designers, customers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality custom silicon for AI and advanced compute programs.
This is a foundational role focused on establishing verification methodology and building a local verification team and toolset.
Experience Level
Senior — expected experience: 15+ years verification and firmware/software development with a Bachelor's degree, or 10+ years with a Master's or PhD.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing verification infrastructure, developing tests and tools, and driving coverage and quality for complex SoCs.
- Architect and develop functional verification environments, including reference models and bus-functional monitors/drivers.
- Author verification test plans using random techniques and coverage analysis; work with designers to ensure completeness.
- Develop tests, tune environments to meet coverage goals, and debug failures with design teams.
- Verify boot code and design, develop, and maintain software tools to support multi-core SoC development.
- Transform engineering requirements into easy-to-use, scalable tools for highly parallel compute environments.
- Perform unit and regression testing of verification tools and infrastructure.
Requirements
Key required skills and attributes; separates must-have and nice-to-have items.
Must-have:
- Extensive SoC verification and testbench development experience using UVM and SystemVerilog.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and DPI for verification and firmware/tool development.
- Strong verification methodology knowledge (object-oriented techniques, directed/random testing, coverage-driven verification, gate-level simulation).
- Proven debugging skills and ability to collaborate with designers to resolve complex issues.
- Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills; initiative-driven, detail-oriented, and data-driven problem solving.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with verification automation frameworks and tool development for parallel compute systems.
- Previous experience delivering customer-specific SoC designs or working in a startup/greenfield design center environment.
Education Requirements
BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science with 15+ years of verification and firmware/software development experience; or MS/PhD with 10+ years of relevant experience.
