Job Title
Senior Principal RF/Microwave Amplifier MMIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior engineer in the RF/Microwave Amplifier MMIC Design Group responsible for developing GaAs and GaN LNA/driver/power amplifier MMICs for communications, test & measurement, industrial, and aerospace & defense products.
Work includes circuit and EM design, layout, thermal and reliability analysis, measurement support, and cross-functional product development.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years of relevant industry experience (Ph.D. may be counted toward experience).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design RF/microwave and millimeter-wave amplifier MMICs (LNA, driver, PA) using GaAs and/or GaN processes.
- Perform circuit simulation, EM and thermal simulation, and layout for manufacturable MMICs.
- Develop and validate device and circuit models; iterate designs based on measurement data.
- Plan and perform RF test and characterization using spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators, and power meters.
- Collaborate with process, test, packaging, and systems teams to productize designs.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical strategy and design reviews.
- Support export-control and security processes as required for positions with controlled technical data.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, authorization, and expectations:
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent resident status (green card holder); export licensing restrictions may apply.
- 10+ years of experience in RF/microwave MMIC design, simulation, layout, or equivalent practical experience.
- Practical experience with industry EDA and EM tools such as Cadence, Keysight ADS, AWR, Momentum, RFPro, Sonnet, and Ansys HFSS.
- Knowledge of GaAs and/or GaN device physics and modeling and experience applying those models in MMIC designs.
- Experience with microwave/millimeter-wave circuit and system design, and hands-on RF measurement techniques.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills; ability to work across cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel up to approximately 10% of the time.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with PA linearization and efficiency enhancement techniques.
- Prior work on instrumentation or aerospace/defense programs.
- Experience with thermal and reliability analysis for high-power MMICs.
Education Requirements
M.S.E.E. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a background in RF/microwave engineering is stated; a minimum of 10+ years of experience is required and a Ph.D. may be counted toward industry experience depending on the thesis. Equivalent practical industry experience may be acceptable.
