Job Title
Senior Principal II Engineer – FPGA Design
Role Summary
Lead FPGA SoC design and digital IP integration for space and other high-reliability electronic systems. Work on R&D, proof-of-concept, and production programs within a multidisciplinary spacecraft solutions team to deliver mission-focused hardware.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical background: 10+ years of related FPGA/digital design experience with demonstrated technical leadership.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Architect and lead complex FPGA SoC designs using AMD (Xilinx) tools and IP.
- Develop FPGA logic (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog), integrate digital IP, and implement digital system partitioning.
- Design and integrate digital filters, image processing algorithms, and communication interfaces/protocols.
- Provide technical leadership, set product roadmaps, and guide engineering teams through the program lifecycle.
- Author and review specifications, cost/schedule/resource estimates, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with electrical, systems, and verification engineers to flow down requirements across subsystem and board levels.
- Work on-site at the primary location three or more days per week; travel between campuses or other locations as required.
Requirements
Must-have:
- 10+ years of relevant FPGA/digital systems experience.
- Proven expertise in VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog and FPGA implementation techniques.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado/Vitis and Mentor ModelSim/QuestaSim.
- Advanced digital system partitioning and embedded systems experience.
- Ability to derive and flow down system/subsystem/board requirements.
- Strong communication and presentation skills; demonstrated technical leadership.
- Willingness and eligibility to be submitted for a security clearance/access if required by the program.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with OVM/UVM verification methodologies.
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet) and signal integrity tools such as HyperLynx.
- Background in DSP, signal processing algorithms, and cybersecurity topics.
- Prior experience in space, aerospace, or other high-reliability applications.
Education Requirements
BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required. Master’s or PhD may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Degree should be from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
