Job Title
Senior Principal II Engineer — FPGA Design
Role Summary
Lead FPGA and SoC design efforts for space and high-reliability electronic systems. Work with cross-functional teams to architect, develop, integrate, and verify digital IP, FPGA cores, and embedded processor systems across R&D and production programs.
Provide technical leadership, set roadmaps, and ensure delivery of robust designs using industry-standard FPGA toolflows.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires 10+ years of related experience; technical leadership in FPGA design is expected.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include system architecture, FPGA development, and team/technical leadership.
- Architect and lead complex FPGA/SoC designs, including digital partitioning and IP integration.
- Develop RTL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog) and integrate digital filters, image processing, and communication interfaces.
- Use Xilinx/AMD toolflows (Vivado, Vitis) and simulation/verification tools (ModelSim/QuestaSim) to implement and verify designs.
- Define requirements, perform flow-down, and produce technical documentation and design reviews.
- Provide technical roadmaps, mentor engineers, and lead cross-functional collaboration.
- Support R&D, proof-of-concept, and production efforts; maintain predictable work schedule and on-site engagement.
- Perform other duties as needed to meet program objectives.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and qualifications, followed by preferred skills.
-
Must-have: Active TS/SCI security clearance.
-
Must-have: 10+ years of relevant FPGA/digital systems experience and demonstrated technical leadership in FPGA design.
-
Must-have: Proficiency in VHDL/Verilog and SystemVerilog; RTL design and verification experience.
-
Must-have: Experience with Xilinx/AMD Vivado and Vitis; Mentor ModelSim/QuestaSim or equivalent simulators.
-
Must-have: Experience with FPGA SoC architectures, IP integration, and digital system partitioning.
-
Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with UVM/OVM verification methodologies, high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet), signal processing/DSP, cybersecurity topics, Mentor HyperLynx for SI analysis, and space or aerospace program experience.
Education Requirements
BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required; a Master’s or PhD may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Degrees should be from accredited institutions; equivalent practical experience is acknowledged.
