Role Summary

The Senior Physical Verification CAD Engineer will be responsible for driving the development and support of Physical Verification (PV) solutions for Microsoft’s silicon design teams. This role involves collaborating with EDA vendors and internal design teams to ensure the effectiveness and scalability of advanced-node PV methodologies.

Experience Level

Senior level with a minimum of 5 years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining PV flows across all Silicon projects, from design to final signoff.
  • Owning PV methodology including guidelines and milestone definitions.
  • Partnering with Physical Design teams to enable early PV runs and debug issues.
  • Resolving flow and design issues related to PV.
  • Driving cross-functional alignment with CAD, Technology, and external EDA partners.
  • Supporting PDK and node enablement activities to ensure PV flows are production-ready.
  • Contributing to documentation and training materials for PV methods and tools.

Requirements

Required qualifications include:

  • Doctorate or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, with corresponding years of experience.
  • Experience with industry-standard PV tools, such as Calibre.
  • Scripting skills in at least one language (TCL, Python, Perl, etc.).
  • Ability to debug complex engineering issues across teams.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with advanced verification checks and custom checks.
  • Knowledge of shift-left PV methodologies and early-stage verification strategies.
  • Prior experience in leading PV methodology councils or multi-project efforts.

Education Requirements

Doctorate, Master's, or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
