Senior Physical Design Verification Engineer, Annapurna Labs
Role Summary
Responsible for physical verification, integration and sign-off of custom SoC designs used in AWS machine learning servers. Member of the Cloud-Scale Machine Learning Acceleration backend team focused on floorplanning, verification methodologies, manufacturability and tool-flow optimization for advanced process nodes.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects extensive backend physical verification and integration experience (see education section for degree/experience guidance).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Drive full-chip floorplan, integration and physical verification sign-off and closure.
- Define, implement and optimize physical verification and integration methodologies using industry EDA tools.
- Perform DRC, LVS, PERC checks and fill insertion; debug and resolve layout/verification issues with design teams.
- Interface with foundries for rule deck updates, waiver management and technology file qualification.
- Develop and maintain verification runsets, automation scripts and verification flows.
- Optimize compute and storage infrastructure for physical design workloads.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical reviews to ensure methodology and sign-off quality.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 5+ years of physical verification experience for advanced technology nodes.
- Expert knowledge of industry-standard verification tools (Calibre, IC Validator, PVS).
- Proven track record of successful tape-outs.
- Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes and design rules.
- Experience with backend physical design flows (e.g., FusionCompiler/Innovus).
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, Perl, or similar) for automation and flow development.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with integration and verification at advanced nodes (5nm or below).
- Knowledge of custom and digital design flows and DFM methodologies.
- Expertise in reliability verification (ESD, EM, IR drop).
- Background in layout design or custom IC development.
Education Requirements
Basic Qualifications specify: BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field plus ~10 years of relevant experience, or MS plus ~7 years of relevant experience ("BS + 10yrs or MS + 7yrs in EE/CS, or related field"). No other degrees, certifications, or explicit equivalent-experience language were provided.
