Job Title

Senior Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join the physical design methodology team responsible for RTL-to-GDSII implementation of NVIDIA GPUs and SoCs. The role focuses on floorplanning, extraction, place-and-route (PNR), STA, physical verification, and automation to improve power, performance, and area (PPA).

The team supports multiple tapeouts and technology nodes and collaborates closely with RTL and design teams to resolve implementation and tool-related issues.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting requests 3+ years of experience in Physical Design, preferably with methodology or flow experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include design implementation, flow development, and cross-team support.

  • Develop and maintain physical design methodology and RTL2GDS flows to improve PPA and design turnaround.
  • Perform floorplanning, RC extraction, place-and-route, CTS, STA, and layout verification tasks.
  • Debug tool and design issues; provide proactive interventions to address complex implementation problems.
  • Build and support flows across tapeouts and process nodes using industry-standard EDA tools.
  • Automate tasks and write scripts (TCL, Python, Perl) to accelerate design teams and flows.
  • Collaborate with RTL and design teams to achieve timing convergence and layout closure.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of desirable additional skills follows.

  • 3+ years of experience in Physical Design, with practical methodology or flow experience.
  • Strong understanding of RTL-to-GDSII flow, including synthesis, P&R, CTS, timing convergence, and layout closure.
  • Hands-on experience with place-and-route and timing closure (STA) flows.
  • Experience with industry tools such as ICC2/Innovus and PrimeTime/Tempus (or equivalent P&R/STA tools).
  • Automation and scripting skills (TCL required; Python and Perl preferred) for tool-specific flows and custom scripts.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with effective communication and ability to work across global teams.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and drive process improvements across teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with high-frequency design methodologies, full-chip floorplanning, and EM/IR analysis.
  • Prior experience supporting multiple tapeouts and advanced process nodes.

Education Requirements

BE / B.Tech / M.Tech, or equivalent practical experience.
