Role Summary

The Senior Physical Design Engineer at Microsoft will be integral to the Compute Silicon & Manufacturing Engineering (CSME) organization. This role involves working on the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced computer chips, particularly for Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure. The engineer will contribute to creating efficient, high-quality, and timely hardware solutions in line with Microsoft’s growing cloud business demands.

Experience Level

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in semiconductor design, with specific expert knowledge in physical design verification. Candidates with a doctorate or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, and relevant professional experience, are preferable.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Driving full-chip physical verification integration and generating signoff collateral.
  • Performing various rule checks such as LVS, DRC, ERC, and ensuring compliance across multiple design levels.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams including CAD, RTL/Design, and Architecture to achieve optimal design solutions.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Delivering clear communication on project status and maintaining alignment with Microsoft’s core values.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Doctorate, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with corresponding years of experience.
  • Strong familiarity with physical design verification tools, such as Calibre and experience in EDA tools for place and route implementation.
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages including Perl, TCL, and Python.
  • Ability to pass necessary security screenings as mandated by Microsoft.

Education Requirements

Required is a doctoral, master's, or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, with experience levels varying from 1 year for doctoral candidates to 5+ years for those with a bachelor’s degree.
