Role Summary

The Senior Physical Design Engineer will join the Compute Silicon & Manufacturing Engineering (CSME) organization at Microsoft, focused on the design and development of advanced computer chips to support the company's expanding cloud infrastructure. The role emphasizes collaboration within teams to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality hardware solutions.

Experience Level

Senior level with a minimum of 5 years of technical engineering experience.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Senior Physical Design Engineer include:

  • Implementing RTL to GDS in Physical Design for major projects.
  • Coordinating with various teams, including CAD and Architecture.
  • Leading design planning and execution of physical design tasks.
  • Ensuring all signoff stages such as timing verification and physical checks are met.
  • Communicating project status and fostering collaboration across teams.

Requirements

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience with appropriate years of experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft’s security screening requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with industry-standard EDA tools (e.g., Synopsys, Cadence).
  • Proficient in scripting languages such as Perl, TCL, and Python.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers.

Education Requirements

Doctorate, Master’s, or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
