Job Title

Senior Photonic-Integrated-Circuit Integration Engineer

Role Summary

As a Silicon Photonics Integrated Circuit Engineer within Integrated Photonics Solutions (IPS), you will define, design, simulate, validate, and optimize silicon photonic integrated circuits for applications such as AI datacenter scaling, laser sources, and pluggable/CPO/OCI solutions. The role spans chip development through manufacturing and focuses on delivering high-performance, manufacturable photonic devices.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires a Master's degree plus 8+ years of industry experience, or a PhD plus 6+ years of industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Architect, design, and optimize complex active and passive silicon photonic integrated circuits.
  • Plan and execute chip design flows: layout, tape-out, test, validation, and performance debug.
  • Develop and run simulations and models to predict performance (link budgets, power budgets, back-reflection analysis, Monte Carlo).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with foundries, validation, manufacturing, and quality/reliability teams to enable high-volume manufacturing (HVM).
  • Analyze test data, drive reliability and qualification activities, and deliver known-good-die solutions.
  • Create technical documentation and test content supporting the PIC lifecycle.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Proven experience developing photonic-integrated-circuits from concept to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience designing, simulating, and testing complex PICs, including link budget analysis, electrical power budgets, back-reflection budgets, and Monte Carlo modeling.
  • Proficiency with optical and numerical simulation tools such as Lumerical (Interconnect, FDTD, MODE, DEVICE), RSoft, Tidy3D, Photon Design, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Experience contributing to or leading PIC tape-outs and HVM-enabling flows.
  • Familiarity with layout and EDA tools such as Cadence, KLayout, Synopsys Optocompiler, or GDSFactory.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with foundries, validation teams, manufacturing, and reliability engineering.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Exposure to photonic test equipment and standard methodologies (optical spectrum analyzers, tunable lasers, optical backscatter reflectometers, optical vector analyzers, fiber/free-space coupling).
  • Familiarity with LVS, SDL, DRC, and EDA/PDA toolchains and methodologies.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and test-data-driven optimization using JMP or statistical libraries in MATLAB/Python.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Master's degree in a relevant field plus 8+ years of industry experience, OR PhD plus 6+ years of industry experience. Relevant experience may be obtained through a combination of degree, research, prior job roles, or internships.
