Job Title
Senior Mixed Digital & RF/Microwave Electronics Design Engineer
Role Summary
Hands-on senior engineer responsible for designing high-performance embedded products that combine RF/microwave, analog, and high-speed digital circuitry around AMD Versal RF and adaptive SoC platforms. The role covers full product lifecycle: schematic and board design, hardware bring-up, characterization, FPGA development, validation software, production support, and customer-facing technical activities.
Position sits within a multi-disciplinary design team serving aerospace, defense, and datacenter markets.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Requires 8+ years of board-level hardware design experience focused on analog/RF.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design mixed-signal PCBs combining RF/analog (to ~18 GHz) with high-speed digital interfaces (DDR5, SERDES, PCIe Gen6) around AMD FPGA platforms.
- Perform RF design and simulation (matching networks, transmission lines, baluns) and validate designs using 3D EM, VNA, spectrum analyzer, and signal generators.
- Take ownership of board-level design from schematic through layout support, bring-up, and characterization.
- Work closely with PCB layout engineers on high-density, multilayer designs addressing signal and power integrity.
- Debug and diagnose hardware issues at board and system level, including RF performance, high-speed interfaces, and power-related problems.
- Develop FPGA designs and validation software/tools (Vivado, TCL, Python) to support hardware testing.
- Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and validation procedures for prototypes and production units.
- Support production and customer-facing activities, including issue investigation and technical documentation.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills:
- US citizenship required.
- 8+ years of board-level hardware design experience with a strong focus on analog/RF.
- Proficiency with simulation, schematic capture, and PCB layout tools such as Keysight ADS, OrCAD CIS, and Cadence Allegro.
- Demonstrated experience with analog RF and high-speed digital design principles, including signal integrity and power integrity.
- Hands-on experience with lab testing and debugging using VNA, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with AMD RFSoC, AMD FPGA devices, and toolchains (Vivado, Vitis).
- Knowledge of Direct RF FPGA architectures and VHDL/Verilog development.
- Familiarity with DDRx, PCIe, Ethernet standards and designing for ruggedized/aerospace environments.
- Scripting experience for automation (Python, Tcl, Windows batch).
- Experience supporting products through full lifecycle; 15+ years of analog/digital hardware design is a plus.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field (explicitly stated in the source).
