Senior Memory Design Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Senior Memory Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver embedded CMOS memories (SRAM, register files, ROM) for Synopsys IP products, owning circuit architecture through tapeout. Work with layout, physical design, CAD, compiler, and verification teams to close performance, power, and area targets and produce EDA models for customers.
This role includes technical leadership and mentoring of junior engineers and driving memory design quality, layout planning, and verification rigor.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting does not state a specific years-of-experience requirement.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and develop embedded CMOS memories including single-port and dual-port SRAM, register files, and ROM.
- Define circuit architecture and implement transistor-level designs for high-speed, low-power, or high-density targets.
- Perform schematic entry, SPICE simulation, layout planning, and supervise physical layout through final verification.
- Develop and verify bitcells, define layout rules, and drive parasitic extraction and layout closure with physical design teams.
- Interface with CAD and compiler teams to integrate memory designs into automation flows and generate EDA models.
- Collaborate with frontend teams to define verification flows for timing, power, and functionality.
- Mentor junior engineers and lead technical aspects of memory design projects from concept to delivery.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Deep, hands-on experience in CMOS memory circuit design (SRAM, register files, ROM).
- Proficiency with SPICE-based circuit simulators such as HSPICE or Spectre.
- Strong understanding of memory layout, parasitic extraction, and layout verification tools (e.g., Calibre, Assura).
- Scripting skills in C-Shell, Perl, or similar; experience with C++ or JavaScript is a plus.
- Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor junior engineers.
- Experience with memory compiler flows, EDA model generation, or design automation is a strong plus.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.
