Senior Manager, Silicon Sourcing
Role Summary
Lead sourcing strategy and supplier relationships for Microsoft's custom silicon programs within Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP). The role partners with hardware and engineering teams to secure foundry, OSAT, substrate, and test services, negotiate costs, and ensure continuity of supply for datacenter hardware.
Individual contributor role based in Redmond, focused on cost, supply continuity, and supplier performance for custom silicon development.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Hiring guidance: Master's degree plus 3+ years, or Bachelor's degree plus 4+ years, or equivalent practical experience (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute sourcing strategy for custom silicon and related manufacturing services.
- Negotiate commercial terms and cost structures with foundries, OSATs, substrate vendors, and test providers.
- Manage supplier selection, qualification, and ongoing performance (QBRs/EBRs, RoB, reporting).
- Coordinate with engineering, planning, and program management to align technology and supply plans.
- Support procurement of manufacturing test hardware and define RFIs/RFQs and statements of work.
- Maintain forecasting consistency and mitigate supply continuity risks; establish escalation paths.
- Drive internal projects to improve procurement efficiency for custom silicon.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and other security screening requirements.
- Willingness to work on-site approximately 3 days per week (role based in Redmond) and travel up to 25%.
- Proven experience engaging senior supplier leadership and managing supplier relationships.
- Experience negotiating contracts, commercial terms, and managing sourcing processes.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with semiconductor suppliers (Foundry, OSAT, substrate, test) and technical sourcing for custom silicon.
- Understanding of silicon design, process, signaling, and packaging technologies.
- Experience with complex silicon programs, should-cost modeling, market analysis, and executive-facing communication.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field plus 3+ years of relevant experience; OR Bachelor's degree in those fields plus 4+ years of relevant experience; OR equivalent practical experience.
