Job Title

Senior Layout Engineer, DDEG

Role Summary

As a Senior Layout Engineer in DDEG at Micron's Boise site, you will translate schematics into manufacturable layouts for advanced DRAM. You will collaborate with Design, Process Integration, and CAD teams to floorplan, implement, and verify custom digital, memory, and analog circuits while improving methods, automation, and documentation.

Experience Level

Senior — leadership responsibilities including block or sub-project planning and mentoring. Preferred 3+ years of semiconductor custom/memory/analog layout experience (see Education Requirements for formal credential expectations).

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include developing layouts that meet schematic intent, process rules, and schedule commitments; verifying layouts; improving methods and automation; and coordinating delivery with global partners.

  • Translate schematics into manufacturable layouts from floorplan through final design for custom, memory, analog, and standard-cell circuits.
  • Perform layout verification tasks including LVS and DRC and execute quality checks; improve verification tools and methodologies.
  • Develop and prototype layout methods and automation (e.g., SKILL, Python); document and codify solutions into guides/SOPs.
  • Coordinate with global partners to meet schedules, support tapeout/mask processes, and deliver block-level layouts on time.
  • Lead layout planning for assigned blocks or sub-projects; set priorities, guide other engineers, and mentor team members.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience, plus preferred skills that support leadership and automation.

  • Must-have: Familiarity with layout tools and methodologies, including Cadence Virtuoso VXL and Calibre for DRC/LVS; exposure to semiconductor custom/memory/analog layout; solid understanding of CMOS processes, design rules, and layout-dependent effects; strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and quality focus.
  • Must-have: Ability to work cross-functionally with Design, Process Integration, and CAD teams to deliver designs on schedule.
  • Nice-to-have: DRAM/LPDDR/HBM memory product layout background.
  • Nice-to-have: Scripting experience (SKILL, Python) and demonstrated experience building methodology/automation.
  • Nice-to-have: Demonstrated block/project leadership, mentoring experience, and strong written documentation skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
