Job Title

Senior HSIO Bench Test Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the Post-Silicon Engineering group responsible for developing and executing test methodologies and characterization for high-speed SERDES interfaces and memory subsystems on Qualcomm SoCs.

Work involves silicon bring-up and debug, electrical compliance and parametric characterization, lab-based measurements, and collaboration with IC design, systems engineering, customer engineering, and hardware applications teams.

Experience Level

Senior — requires significant hands-on post-silicon validation experience; posting highlights 5+ years in high-speed silicon validation.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities focus on characterization, validation, and debugging of high-speed interfaces and related subsystem components.

  • Define and execute test methodologies and characterization plans for high-speed interfaces (PCIe, USB4, UFS, DisplayPort, MIPI DSI/CSI) and related subsystems (PLLs, LP/PC-DDR, DRAM controller, mixed-signal PHY, IOs, clocking, delay circuits, power distribution).
  • Perform first-silicon bring-up, debug, and electrical compliance validation for chips fabricated at external foundries.
  • Collect and analyze parametric performance data across operating conditions and configurations; produce technical reports and recommendations.
  • Investigate and resolve power integrity (PI) and signal integrity (SI) issues related to package and board design; support schematic/layout reviews.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts and bench setups; operate lab equipment for characterization and debug.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support customer issue resolution and RMA debug under time-constrained scenarios.

Requirements

Essential skills and experience required for successful performance in this role; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: 5+ years of high-speed silicon validation and characterization experience.
  • Experience with first-silicon bring-up and debugging of high-speed interfaces and memory subsystems.
  • Proven problem-solving and debugging skills; ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to analyze parametric measurement data and communicate results clearly in written and verbal form.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, TDR/VNA, J-BERT or similar lab equipment; familiarity with SERDES Tx/Rx blocks and signal integrity analysis.
  • Experience with test automation using Python or C#; familiarity with board design concepts (schematic/layout best practices) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of VLSI technologies, CMOS analog/digital circuits, mixed-signal concepts, and ASIC device-level characterization is beneficial.

Education Requirements

Posting specifies one of the following: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field (with 2+ years of hardware engineering experience); OR Master's degree in those fields (with 1+ year of hardware engineering experience); OR PhD in those fields. Equivalent practical experience may be considered per the posting language.
