Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer II
Role Summary
Design, verify, test, and deploy FPGA-based systems for satellite, spacecraft, and aerospace communication products. Work across hardware and firmware teams to implement HDL designs, validate high-speed data paths, and support board- and system-level integration.
Work is hands-on and autonomous; responsibilities include technical design reviews and contribution to proposals and customer interactions.
Experience Level
Senior — requires substantial, typically 6+ years of relevant industry or research experience in FPGA/HDL system development.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include design through delivery of FPGA circuits and systems.
- Develop and maintain FPGA RTL (Verilog/VHDL) for data-processing cores, high-speed serial interfaces, and management interfaces.
- Architect and implement multi-clock-domain designs and clocking strategies.
- Create and run verification plans, simulations, and hardware-in-the-loop tests for FPGA designs.
- Perform testing, validation, and troubleshooting using lab instruments and test equipment.
- Support board-level bring-up and system integration activities.
- Prepare and present engineering design reviews to internal teams and customers.
- Contribute to proposal writing and documentation for customer-facing work.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security/eligibility, and experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of industry or research experience designing and implementing FPGA systems at the HDL level.
- Proven expertise in Verilog and/or VHDL and FPGA toolflows (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, ModelSim, HDL Coder).
- Experience with high-speed serial interfaces and streaming data architectures.
- Experience with verification, validation, and test methodologies for FPGA designs.
- Hands-on experience with lab instruments: digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, vector signal analyzers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reviews and customer interaction.
- Must meet U.S. Government space export eligibility: U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee/refugee, or otherwise eligible for required Department of State authorizations.
Preferred / Nice-to-have
- Aerospace design and qualification experience, including worst-case/failure mode and reliability analyses.
- Board-level hardware design experience.
- Familiarity with communications systems and digital signal processing.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution.
