Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Multi-Product Power & Digital (MPD) team to design production-quality FPGA solutions for missile/effectors, radars, and electronic warfare systems. The role covers FPGA architecture, development, verification, documentation, and lifecycle support across major device families.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant FPGA/ASIC engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and deliver production-quality FPGA designs using VHDL/Verilog for applications such as gigabit serial interfaces, RF DSP, controls, data links, and embedded processing.
- Architect FPGA systems: select parts, define interfaces, and produce Concept of Operations (CONOPS).
- Lead designs and small teams; provide technical direction and mentorship.
- Verify designs using directed and constrained-random tests; track functional and code coverage.
- Perform lab integration and debug of FPGA/ASIC hardware.
- Manage timing closure, clock domain crossing, reset domain crossing, and constraint development.
- Produce complete documentation: requirements, verification plans, and user guides; support technical reviews.
- Define schedules for FPGA tasks and drive execution to planned budget and schedule.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- FPGA/ASIC design (VHDL and/or Verilog) or verification (SystemVerilog).
- Experience with AMD (Xilinx), Altera, and/or Microchip (Microsemi) devices and tools such as Vivado, Quartus Prime Pro, or Libero.
- Hands-on integration and lab debug experience for FPGA/ASIC designs.
- Experience with timing closure, clock domain crossing, reset domain crossing, and constraint development.
- Familiarity with source code management, design reviews, and team-based code release processes.
- Ability to work onsite in McKinney, TX with minimal oversight and to support internal/external technical reviews.
- Strong documentation and communication skills; experience mentoring junior engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- FPGA/ASIC experience in radar or image processing, embedded processor integration (ARM, Microblaze, NIOS), or multi-gigabit transceivers (MGTs).
- Experience with constrained-random verification (UVM/SystemVerilog), High Level Synthesis (HLS), vector processors/GPUs, or advanced verification flows.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and meet schedule, budget, and technical commitments; familiarity with Earned Value or Agile execution; proposal development experience.
Education Requirements
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (for example Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics). Advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering or related STEM fields are preferred and may be credited toward experience (posting notes an advanced degree may be counted as two years of work experience).
