Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Lead FPGA design and verification for airborne radar systems on the Battlespace Awareness team. Work across hardware, firmware, and software domains to translate signal-processing algorithms into production FPGA implementations and establish FPGA design processes for the team.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires extensive experience; this role expects 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development.

Responsibilities

Accountable for end-to-end FPGA development and technical leadership for airborne radar products.

  • Lead FPGA architecture, RTL design, and verification from concept through production.
  • Translate signal-processing algorithms into high-performance FPGA implementations on Xilinx SoC/FPGA platforms.
  • Design and implement digital signal processing chains: data acquisition, filtering, and real-time processing.
  • Perform timing analysis, resource optimization, and debug complex FPGA designs.
  • Establish and enforce FPGA coding standards, verification methodologies, and design processes.
  • Produce and maintain architecture specifications, design documentation, and verification plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-site engineering teams to ensure integration and knowledge transfer.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers as the team scales FPGA capabilities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and clearances required for independent technical leadership.

  • 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.
  • Strong RTL design skills in SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
  • Proven experience with Xilinx FPGA devices and development tools (Vivado); familiarity with Quartus/Intel tools is beneficial.
  • Practical experience implementing digital signal processing on FPGAs.
  • Experience with FPGA verification methodologies and simulation tools.
  • Deep understanding of timing closure, resource optimization, and FPGA design constraints.
  • Self-directed technical leadership with ability to drive projects from requirements to hardware implementation.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

Useful additional experience and skills that complement the core requirements.

  • Experience developing radar systems or software-defined radio.
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204B.
  • Experience with Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+, Intel/Altera AgileX, or RFSoC platforms.
  • Knowledge of embedded software for FPGA SoC platforms and MATLAB-based algorithm-to-hardware workflows.
  • Understanding of RF systems, digital front-end design, and airborne hardware standards (e.g. DO-254).
  • Experience with version control (Git) and continuous integration workflows; background in aerospace/defense development is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

US salary range: $191,000 - $253,000 USD (base salary estimate). Total compensation may include equity and additional benefits.
