Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, implement, verify, and deliver FPGA-based systems. Work includes RTL development, testbench and simulation, timing closure, lab bring-up and debug, and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
Lead small engineering teams to deliver moderately complex FPGA/ASIC projects on schedule and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Minimum of 10+ years of hands-on FPGA engineering experience is required.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement FPGA/ASIC logic using Verilog and/or VHDL for modules, top-level FPGAs, and multi-FPGA systems.
- Develop self-checking test benches and perform simulation, including back-annotated timing analysis.
- Perform RTL reviews, significant RTL debug, and participate in code reviews.
- Manage timing closure, CDC analysis, reset and clock domain design.
- Lead and mentor small teams, assign tasks, and track schedule progress.
- Troubleshoot and debug hardware in the lab using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and bench equipment.
Requirements
Required skills and constraints:
- Proven track record completing multiple FPGA or ASIC designs, including at least one of moderate complexity.
- Experience developing test benches with self-checking features and performing comprehensive simulation and timing verification.
- Familiarity with FPGA toolflows and tools such as Synplify Pro, ISE, Vivado and Libero.
- Understanding of FPGA technology differences (e.g., Xilinx vs Actel/Microsemi).
- Proficiency with scripting languages such as TCL and Python for automation.
- Practical RTL debug experience and working knowledge of CDC, reset, and clock design practices.
- Leadership and clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to provide technical direction to junior engineers.
- Ability to work with lab equipment to diagnose and resolve hardware issues.
- U.S. citizenship required.
Education Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is desired.
