Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA solutions for RF and wireless products as part of a cross-functional hardware and software engineering team. Work focuses on size, weight, power, and packaging-constrained platforms intended for near-term fielding.

Role requires collaboration with system, RF, and software engineers; US citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance are required.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 10+ years of relevant FPGA/DSP engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include system-level FPGA design, verification, and integration for high-speed RF communications products.

  • Architect, design, implement, and modify FPGA/SoC designs for RF/wireless systems.
  • Develop and maintain HDL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog) code and timing/pin constraints.
  • Debug complex FPGA designs in-system and during hardware bring-up.
  • Implement and verify high-speed interfaces and protocols (e.g., JESD204C, 2.5G–100G Ethernet).
  • Integrate FPGA functions with DSP, peripherals, DMA/AMBA buses, and softcore processors as required.
  • Collaborate with RF and algorithm engineers on modulation, equalization, FEC, AFC/AGC, and baseband processing.
  • Document designs, perform test/validation, and support product delivery under aggressive schedules.
  • Travel locally up to ~10% as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and qualifications are listed below; the following items are required or expected to perform the role.

  • 10+ years of experience designing DSP/FPGA solutions for communications or RF products.
  • In-depth HDL expertise in VHDL, Verilog, and SystemVerilog.
  • Experience managing pin assignments and timing constraints for complex FPGA designs.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug FPGA systems and implement high-speed architectures (JESD204C, multi-Gbps Ethernet).
  • Knowledge of communications algorithms and RF concepts: modulation/demodulation, channel equalization/estimation, channel coding (FEC), RF acquisition, AFC/AGC.
  • DSP baseband signal processing experience and peripheral control.
  • Proficiency with Python, C/C++, and MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm development and FPGA/DSP programming.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain at least a Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal and written communication skills; ability to work on cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with wireless standards (3GPP LTE, WCDMA, GSM, IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.15).
  • Mixed-signal design understanding (dynamic range, SFDR, quantization) and experience compensating RF imperfections.
  • Experience with SoCs (UltraScale+, Zynq, Agilex) and softcore processors (MicroBlaze, NIOS, PicoBlaze).
  • Experience with DMA/AXI/AXIS/ACP buses and hardware bring-up of custom boards.
  • Familiarity with SystemVerilog verification constructs, classes, and packages.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical field is specified. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance are required. No other degrees or certifications are listed.
