Job Title

Senior FPGA Design Engineer

Role Summary

Develop FPGA-based solutions for pre-silicon validation, hardware prototyping, and high-speed interface verification. Work closely with architecture, RTL, verification, firmware, and post-silicon teams to accelerate product development and improve design quality.

Experience Level

Senior-level. 6+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, validate, and debug FPGA platforms used for ASIC validation, prototyping, and high-speed interface testing.

  • Design and implement FPGA-based prototypes for ASIC validation and feature development.
  • Develop RTL in Verilog/SystemVerilog for FPGA implementation.
  • Integrate complex IPs (DDR/LPDDR, PCIe, Ethernet, CXL, HBM) into FPGA platforms.
  • Perform FPGA synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and resource optimization.
  • Debug designs using embedded logic analyzers, simulation, and hardware instrumentation.
  • Develop board-level bring-up and validation plans for FPGA platforms.
  • Create automation scripts for FPGA build, regression, and deployment using Python, Tcl, or Bash.
  • Collaborate across architecture, RTL, verification, firmware, and post-silicon teams to resolve functional and performance issues.
  • Drive FPGA methodology improvements, coding standards, and design best practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.

  • Strong proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog and digital logic design.
  • Experience with Altera Quartus Prime Pro development environment.
  • Experience with FPGA synthesis, place-and-route, implementation, and timing closure.
  • Strong understanding of clock domain crossing (CDC), reset synchronization, and timing analysis.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR4/DDR5, LPDDR4/LPDDR5, Ethernet, AXI, or CXL.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools (Questa, VCS, Xcelium).
  • Scripting experience (Python, Tcl, or Bash) for build and automation flows.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; experience with hardware instrumentation.

Nice-to-have:

  • FPGA-based emulation or ASIC prototyping experience.
  • Knowledge of high-speed SerDes architectures and memory controller/PHY interfaces.
  • Familiarity with UVM-based verification environments and board bring-up tools (oscilloscopes, protocol/logical analyzers).
  • Experience with embedded processors (ARM, Nios II/V).

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
