Senior Firmware & Product Test Engineer
Role Summary
Senior engineer on the Firmware & Product Testing (FPT) team responsible for validating enterprise SSD firmware, with emphasis on NVMe front-end features and customer specifications.
The role focuses on test development, Python-based automation, execution, failure analysis, and applying data-driven / AI/ML techniques to improve test efficiency and product quality while collaborating with firmware engineers and data scientists.
Experience Level
Senior level. Approximately 5+ years of relevant firmware or validation experience expected.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include verification plan development, test automation, failure analysis, and cross-functional communication.
- Develop and execute firmware verification plans for NVMe protocols and customer specifications, focusing on front-end features (e.g., SMART, TRIM, Get Log Page, OCP).
- Design and implement grey-box, white-box, and black-box test methodologies across simulation, FPGA prototyping, and prototype hardware.
- Analyze failures from weekly regressions, perform root-cause analysis, and document findings and mitigation steps.
- Develop, maintain, and execute Python-based test automation, data-collection tools, and reporting within FPT frameworks.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving test coverage and code quality.
- Apply and tune AI/ML techniques where appropriate for anomaly detection and failure pattern identification.
- Communicate test results and recommendations to firmware teams, test developers, and management.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, practical experience, and personal qualities required for the role.
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with libraries such as NumPy and pandas; basic experience using scikit-learn.
- Solid understanding of test automation, testing methodologies, and common test tools.
- Working knowledge of machine learning fundamentals (algorithms, training concepts, evaluation metrics).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to debug complex issues and work with test data.
- Hands-on validation experience and the ability to work independently with guidance from senior engineers.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional work.
Nice-to-have:
- Exposure to ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Academic or project experience in machine learning, data science, or AI.
- Basic understanding of embedded systems, firmware, or hardware testing concepts.
- Familiarity with software development practices including Git and agile workflows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree plus ~5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
