Senior ESD Circuit Design Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for ESD requirements and implementation for integrated circuits within the BG IC Solutions development team in Nijmegen. Own the ESD protection strategy, select components and design ESD-robust I/O circuits to ensure silicon meets product ESD specifications.

Work cross-functionally with IC design, front-end technology, test and product teams across architecture, design and validation phases.

Experience Level

Senior — minimum 5 years of semiconductor industry and circuit design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include definition, design, validation and support of ESD protection for ICs:

• Define ESD strategy and select ESD components to meet customer and product requirements.
• Collaborate with Front End teams on ESD library components and ESD rule development for CMOS and BCD technologies.
• Design, prototype, measure, characterize and qualify ESD circuits and I/O structures; perform TLP measurements and electrical characterization.
• Design and layout I/O circuits and integrate ESD protection techniques and components.
• Perform electrical SPICE simulations to verify function and product requirements.
• Lead ESD-related failure analysis and debugging activities.
• Provide ESD consultancy to other design teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

• Minimum 5 years of semiconductor industry experience in circuit design.
• Deep understanding of semiconductor device physics and device characteristics.
• Experience with standard CMOS and BCD process technologies.
• Proven knowledge of ESD mechanisms and state-of-the-art ESD circuit design techniques and topologies.
• Hands-on experience with EDA tools (for example Cadence) and ESD test/characterization equipment, including TLP setups.
• Analytical problem-solving skills and pragmatic approach to balancing technical and cost targets.
• Good written and spoken English communication skills.
• Self-driven, proactive, able to work independently and make confident technical decisions.
• Nice-to-have: experience with TCAD for process/device optimization.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in semiconductor physics or electrical engineering.
