Job Title
Senior Engineer - Product Debug Team
Role Summary
Senior Engineer on the Product Debug team responsible for ensuring software stability on Qualcomm SoCs across the product lifecycle from pre-silicon validation through commercialization. The role focuses on system-level debugging, stability analysis, and cross-functional issue triage with hardware, software, test, and customer engineering teams.
Experience Level
Senior β the posting indicates experienced engineers; minimum qualification examples are Bachelor's + 2 years, Master's + 1 year, or PhD.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities center on diagnosing and resolving system and software stability problems, supporting bring-up activities, and improving debug processes.
- Investigate and resolve system and software stability issues across multi-processor Linux and RTOS environments.
- Analyze timing and performance issues in RTOS and Linux applications; contribute to performance optimization.
- Use low-level debug tools (e.g., JTAG, ETM, Trace32, GDB, oscilloscopes) for root-cause analysis.
- Perform code inspection, instrumentation, and log analysis to identify defects and regressions.
- Participate in chip bring-up, stability scrums, and feature design discussions; triage issues with cross-functional teams.
- Develop automation scripts and documentation to improve debug processes and reproducibility.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred (education requirements are summarized separately).
- Must-have: strong Linux fundamentals, including kernel internals, device drivers, and memory management.
- Must-have: experience with embedded systems and system-level debugging on SoCs.
- Must-have: proficiency in C/C++; experience with Java or Python is common.
- Familiarity with RTOS fundamentals (scheduling, synchronization) and multi-processor interactions.
- Experience or familiarity with debugging tools such as Trace32, GDB, JTAG, ETM, and oscilloscopes.
- Experience with scripting for automation (Python, Perl, Shell).
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with Assembly, Qualcomm DSP debugging/profiling, Neural Network (QNN) execution on DSPs, and Linux kernel module or driver development.
- Nice-to-have: awareness of ARM/Cortex/Hexagon architectures and bus systems (AHB, NoC); semiconductor or embedded systems domain experience (including internships or academic projects).
- Strong analytical and cross-team collaboration skills; ability to document and automate debug flows.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field plus 2+ years of software engineering or related experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 1+ year of experience; OR PhD in a related field. Preferred mentions include B.Tech/M.Tech in Electronics, Computer Science, or related fields. (Degree-and-years combinations listed in the posting.)
