Job Title
Senior Engineer, Plasma Modeling
Role Summary
As a Senior Engineer in Advanced Modeling & AI Solutions (AMAIS), you will develop predictive digital twins and physics-based and ML-driven models for semiconductor processes, equipment, materials, and products across DRAM, NAND and advanced packaging. Work includes plasma and wet-process modeling, multi-physics simulations, and integration of predictive models into technology and fab co-optimization.
The role partners with global engineering teams to translate modeling outputs into process decisions that improve yield, reliability, and manufacturing performance.
Experience Level
Senior-level. 5+ years of modeling experience (semiconductor process or related computational modeling).
Responsibilities
Deliver modeling and digital-engineering solutions to enable process development, optimization, and technology decisions.
- Develop and deploy digital twins and predictive models across process, wafer, die, package, and manufacturing domains.
- Create structural and multi-physics models to evaluate stress, deformation, cracking, voiding, and reliability risks.
- Build physics-informed composite AI models for design-space exploration, yield improvement, and reliability assessment.
- Apply advanced numerical methods, machine learning, and sparse-data techniques to produce robust predictive and prescriptive solutions.
- Integrate GenAI/LLM-powered tools, RAG systems, and agentic AI workflows with simulation environments and manufacturing data.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams to translate modeling insights into actionable technology choices.
Requirements
Core technical skills and domain expertise required. Listed as must-have where indicated; other items are beneficial.
-
Must-have: 5+ years of modeling experience; algorithm development, numerical methods, and scientific computing.
-
Must-have: Solid experience with plasma processes (including FPM), HAR etching, Monte Carlo modeling, and wet processes (chemical etch/strip, material selectivity).
-
Must-have: Strong background in thermodynamics, physics, and chemistry; experience with computational materials science methodologies.
-
Must-have: Experience with process and multi-physics modeling and implementation; familiarity with common modeling software and Linux-based development.
-
Must-have: Programming/scripting experience (Bash, Python, FORTRAN, or C++); strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, HPEM.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with machine learning/deep learning concepts, regression and neural-network frameworks, and applying GenAI/LLMs/agentic AI in engineering workflows.
- Effective written and verbal communication; experience writing technical reports and conference papers; ability to work in distributed teams using remote collaboration tools.
Education Requirements
Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
