Senior Engineer, Physical Design
Role Summary
Senior Physical Design engineer responsible for developing and delivering physical implementation for tile/subchip/partition designs. Works on placement, clock-tree synthesis, routing, timing closure, crosstalk mitigation, and full physical verification within aggressive schedules.
Reports to the Physical Design Lead and contributes to reusable flows, EDA tool and methodology development while collaborating with domain experts and team leads.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 3+ years of industry experience in physical design (RTL-to-GDSII).
Responsibilities
The role owns backend implementation flows for sub-designs and contributes to tool/flow/methodology development.
- Execute physical implementation: placement, clock-tree synthesis, routing, and timing closure including crosstalk analysis.
- Perform congestion analysis, timing analysis, and full physical verification.
- Work with domain experts to prioritize PPA goals and meet aggressive schedules.
- Collaborate with team leads to define priorities and predictable delivery timelines.
- Develop and improve reusable EDA flows, scripts, and methodologies.
- Comply with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 3+ years of industry experience exclusively in Physical Design (RTL2GDS).
- Hands-on experience with congestion analysis, timing analysis, and physical verification.
- Proficiency with EDA tools from Synopsys, Cadence, or Siemens.
- Strong debugging and analysis skills, clear verbal and written communication, and an analytical mindset.
- Offered candidates who will work in India must be fully vaccinated prior to their targeted start date.
Nice-to-have:
- Exposure to AMS design and integration.
- Experience scripting for flow/methodology development, including physical verification automation.
- Exposure to design abstraction and modeling.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.
