Job Title
Senior Electrical Failure Analysis Engineer - Storage Systems
Role Summary
Lead failure analysis for returned SSD products to identify electrical and physical root causes, manage RMA cases, and produce technical reports. Work within the QRA RMA team and coordinate with hardware, firmware, validation, and customer-facing teams.
This role is performed onsite daily in the lab and includes mentoring junior engineers and interfacing with customers on technical issues.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting lists a minimum of 3+ years of relevant engineering experience (in conjunction with a Master’s degree).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include laboratory diagnostics, failure analysis, customer interaction, and technical leadership.
- Perform electrical diagnostics with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power measurement tools, and bus tracers to isolate component- and board-level failures.
- Execute electrical and mechanical failure analysis on returned SSDs and replicate errors for root-cause determination.
- Collaborate with hardware design, firmware, and validation teams to reproduce anomalies and recommend corrective actions.
- Produce and communicate comprehensive failure analysis reports to internal teams and external customers.
- Manage customer-facing RMA cases and ensure timely resolution and status communication.
- Set up and maintain debug systems for design-of-experiments (DOE) and error replication.
- Provide technical consultation to customer-facing teams and mentor early-career engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- 3+ years of experience in product, system, validation, or quality engineering (as noted alongside degree requirement).
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, bus analyzers, logic analyzers, and hardware repair/rework.
- Proven expertise in electrical failure analysis down to board and component level.
- Strong understanding of signal integrity, power delivery, and component failure mechanisms in high-speed storage systems (SSD/NAND).
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and perform board-level analysis; strong analytical and communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Storage-industry experience and prior customer-facing technical roles.
- Familiarity with PCIe, SATA, and bus-tracing tools for system debugging.
- Project coordination and time-management skills; willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
- Experience using AI tools to improve engineering efficiency.
Education Requirements
Master’s degree in Electronics, Computer, or Systems Engineering (or a related technical field) is specified. The posting associates the degree with a minimum of 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
