Job Title

Senior ASIC/FPGA Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Applied Research and Technology (ART) Microelectronics Technology team to develop and verify high-performance ASIC and FPGA solutions for defense and mission systems. The role focuses on chip-level verification, testbench architecture, and collaboration with design and validation teams to deliver verified RTL designs.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires 5+ years of relevant ASIC/FPGA verification experience, or 3+ years with an advanced degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

Primary verification and testbench responsibilities for ASIC and FPGA RTL blocks.

  • Design and implement verification environments using SystemVerilog with OVM/UVM.
  • Create test plans, test cases, and track code and functional coverage.
  • Develop testbenches for RTL written in VHDL and/or SystemVerilog; execute simulations and analyze results.
  • Integrate and validate ASIC/FPGA solutions with design engineers and lab teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to verification team leadership.
  • Contribute to engineering estimates and planning for new program pursuits.

Requirements

Essential technical and security requirements, followed by preferred skills.

  • Must-have: Active, transferable U.S. government-issued SECRET security clearance required prior to start; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Must-have: Proven experience developing and simulating RTL with VHDL and/or Verilog in a professional ASIC/FPGA environment.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and execute verification testbenches using VHDL and/or SystemVerilog.
  • Must-have: Working knowledge of chip-level verification methodologies: constrained-random testing, functional coverage, and assertion-based verification (SystemVerilog).
  • Must-have: Experience with revision control tools and workflows (e.g., Git, Subversion).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with high-speed interfaces/protocols (DDR, PCIe, Ethernet) and ASIC/FPGA lab validation and debugging.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with ASIC/FPGA tools such as QuestaSim, Synplify, Quartus, or Vivado; Unix/Linux environments and scripting.
  • Nice-to-have: Background in aerospace, defense, or mission-critical systems and strong communication/teamwork skills.

Education Requirements

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
