Job Title

Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior mixed-signal IC designer on the Acacia team developing high-speed analog and analog/mixed-signal circuits for optical transceivers (100G–1T) used in data center and telecom networks. Hybrid role based in San Jose with three days per week onsite.

The team designs and integrates high-speed SERDES, precision analog, power management, and photonic interface circuitry, and collaborates with DSP, system, package and module teams to bring ASICs to production.

Experience Level

Senior. See Education Requirements for specific degree/experience combinations; position expects substantial industry experience and leadership on complex IC blocks.

Responsibilities

The role leads design, verification, and productization of high-speed analog and mixed-signal ASIC blocks and collaborates across disciplines to meet system-level targets.

  • Architect, design, layout, measure and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog/mixed-signal IP and chip blocks.
  • Lead design efforts for large/complex blocks, mentor engineers, track deliverables, and participate in peer reviews.
  • Collaborate with package and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
  • Develop high-speed AMS circuits (SERDES, PLLs, data converters, analog front ends) and establish robust design methodology from concept to production.
  • Support bring-up, measurement, and product qualification activities.

Requirements

Key technical requirements and desirable skills. Degree/experience combinations are summarized separately under Education Requirements.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed ICs in at least three areas such as high-speed serial links (serializers/deserializers), data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops, clock transmission/propagation, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
  • Must-have: Practical experience with IC layout, measurement/test, and productization for high-speed analog/mixed-signal designs.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane/cable), FinFET technology, high-frequency layout (passives, transmission lines), floorplanning (power/ground, analog/digital routing), and custom transistor layout.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with design-for-manufacturability, ESD lab practices, and mixed-signal simulation tools (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, EMX) and Matlab.

Education Requirements

Degree and experience combinations: BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years — or equivalent practical experience. Preferred fields: Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or closely related technical disciplines. Certifications not specified.
