Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Design and productize ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed optical transceivers. Member of the Mixed-Signal IC design group working on high-speed (≥25 Gb/s) and high-accuracy analog blocks that integrate into ASICs.
Work closely with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams. This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose, CA.
Experience Level
Senior-level. See Education Requirements for experience-based guidance.
Responsibilities
Accountable for architecture, design, verification, and productization of analog/mixed-signal blocks for optical transceivers.
- Architect, design, layout review, and validate ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS AMS circuits from concept through production.
- Lead large functional blocks on complex chips; mentor engineers and manage deliverables and peer reviews.
- Develop high-speed AMS circuits and subsystems (serdes, data converters, PLLs, clocking, drivers, regulators, opamps, PGAs, equalizers).
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity and system-level requirements.
- Plan and execute prototyping, lab characterization, debug, and design-for-manufacturability activities.
- Establish and apply mixed-signal simulation and verification methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience to perform the role.
- Proven experience in design, simulation and measurement of high-speed ICs in at least three areas such as serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, PLLs, clock transmission/propagation, opamps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Demonstrated ownership of complex AMS blocks through tapeout and productization; leadership and mentoring experience.
- Hands-on experience with lab characterization and debug of high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits.
- Strong collaboration skills with digital, packaging and system engineering teams to meet system-level specs.
Nice-to-have / preferred
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications) and FinFET technology.
- High-frequency layout and passive component design (inductors, transformers, transmission lines), custom transistor layout, and floorplanning experience.
- Design-for-manufacturability and ESD laboratory practices.
- Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX, and mixed-signal AMS simulations.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with ~12+ years experience, or Master’s degree with ~8+ years, or PhD with ~5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Fields: Electrical Engineering or related technical/engineering disciplines. (Equivalent experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.)
