Job Title

Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Member of the Mixed-Signal IC design group responsible for architecting, designing, laying out, measuring and productizing ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for optical transceivers (100G–1T). The role leads large blocks on complex chips and collaborates with digital/DSP, packaging, system and module teams.

This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week onsite in San Jose, CA.

Experience Level

Senior-level. This role expects substantial hands-on IC design and leadership experience; see the Education Requirements section for formal degree/experience equivalencies.

Responsibilities

Principal responsibilities include ownership of analog/mixed-signal blocks from concept through production and mentoring team members.

  • Architect, design, layout, characterize and productize high-speed analog/mixed-signal CMOS circuits.
  • Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips and drive design reviews and release milestones.
  • Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity targets.
  • Develop and validate high-speed AMS circuits (serial links, data converters, PLLs, driver/receiver chains).
  • Mentor engineers, track deliverables and establish robust design methodology from prototype to manufacturing.

Requirements

Key technical and professional requirements. Education/degree equivalencies are summarized in the Education Requirements section below and have been removed from this list.

Must-have:

  • Proven design, simulation and measurement experience with high-speed ICs (analog and mixed-signal).
  • Hands-on experience with serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, PLLs, clock distribution, op amps, programmable gain amplifiers and equalization techniques.
  • Experience taking blocks from architecture to silicon and supporting bring-up and characterization.
  • Ability to lead complex design efforts and collaborate across system, digital/DSP, packaging and module teams.

Nice-to-have / Preferred:

  • Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable), FinFET processes and high-frequency layout (passives, transmission lines, transformers, inductors).
  • Floorplanning and custom transistor layout experience; designing for manufacturability and ESD lab practices.
  • Experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX and mixed-signal (AMS) simulation flows.

Education Requirements

Cisco lists formal degree/experience equivalencies: BSEE with 12+ years of relevant experience, MS (or equivalent) with 8+ years, or PhD (or equivalent) with 5+ years. The posting also allows equivalent practical experience in place of a degree.
