Job Title
Senior Analog Mixed-Signal Engineer - Data Converters Expert
Role Summary
Senior member of the Data Converter team within NXP's AI and Chip Engineering organization. Responsible for architecture, transistor-level implementation, verification, layout, IP integration, and silicon evaluation of high-performance ADCs, DACs, references, and supporting analog blocks.
Provide technical leadership to small multidisciplinary teams, deliver reusable data-converter IP across product lines, and drive design quality, performance, and integration into SoCs.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting requests a minimum of 12 years of industry-related experience; ideal candidates have 15+ years.
Responsibilities
Design, verify, and deliver data converter IP and related analog building blocks; lead technical workstreams and coordinate multidisciplinary integration.
- Architect, design, verify, and validate ADCs, DACs, reference circuits, sampling and clocking networks, calibration functions, and analog building blocks.
- Own complex circuit blocks or complete data-converter IP from concept through layout, silicon validation, and IP release.
- Lead small teams of analog, mixed-signal, digital, and layout engineers; provide technical direction and design reviews.
- Translate system and product requirements into IP specifications, performance budgets, verification plans, and integration needs.
- Develop scalable, configurable architectures and maximize reuse of circuits, models, verification environments, and documentation.
- Drive technical decisions, risk mitigation, and resolution of design, layout, verification, and integration issues.
- Collaborate with system architects, SoC teams, verification and test engineers for successful IP integration and silicon bring-up.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, hands-on tools experience, and leadership qualities required to design high-performance data converters.
- Extensive analog and mixed-signal IC design experience with substantial hands-on ADC and/or DAC development.
- Proven ability to architect, design, verify, and debug complex analog/mixed-signal circuits through silicon validation.
- Strong understanding of data-converter fundamentals, converter architectures, calibration techniques, signal-chain budgeting, and power/performance/area trade-offs.
- Hands-on experience with converter types such as SAR, pipeline, sigma-delta, time-interleaved, hybrid ADCs, and current-steering or voltage-mode DACs.
- Experience with full-custom analog design and verification tools (examples: Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, ADE, AMS) and scripting/analysis tools (MATLAB, Python, SKILL).
- In-depth knowledge of high-performance analog layout, advanced CMOS technologies, PVT and mismatch analysis, reliability, and post-layout verification.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, ownership, communication skills, and ability to guide and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Education Requirements
Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Integrated Circuit Design, or closely related field. The posting specifies these degrees as the educational expectation.
